MithosYggdrasill1992 • 4h ago Horny 😰 Except this is probably exactly why it was done that way. It’s so that way the people investigating can find that person who put that disgusting material up, and get them arrested.

u/Outside-Pen5158 avatar Outside-Pen5158 • 2h ago I don't want to defend or accuse anyone because I don't know much about this whole situation.

But I once found items containing VERY endangered animals' derivatives on a local marketplace. I contacted the police and they told me not to contact the marketplace support or the seller, because it's easier and more efficient to investigate this if the product is still up.

It was heartbreaking to see that a few people bought these items while the investigation was going on so I don't know how to feel about this. But this is 100% a real practice.

Thank you for posting these here, it doesn’t matter if it floods the subreddit. If people want evidence, here it is

MithosYggdrasill1992 • 4h ago Horny 😰 So I’ve actually done moderation for AI sites, and other discord and twitch and all sorts of things. Shadow banning an account like that is actually the norm. They can’t full out ban it because then they would eventually wipe the data and stuff like that, especially if that’s what the backend of the site is set up to do behind the scenes. Shadow banning keeps it so the devs and things of that nature can show it to the FBI, and so the IP address can still be tracked. Without letting other people use it. So well, I understand this is disgusting and CSAM IS THE EPITOME OF EVIL, I understand why it was only shadow banned, and not full out banned.

Not humans.. Involving children into this shit? even if they're not real? That's just fucked up man, Shep shouldn't even think twice about this, he should outright ban him, and report him to the police or something.. Like Damn.

BannedFootage • 8h ago u/BannedFootage avatar BannedFootage • 6h ago • Edited 4h ago I actually feel really bad for pedos who never act. (Edit: Not those who are offenders or act in any way, obviously. Because people don't seem to get this). It's not like they can do anything against this when you're born. How horrible your life must be, if you have this kind of shit, and you know it's wrong and sick. But the moment someone else has to suffer because of this... or you give in to this, even if no child gets hurt directly, it's over... x.x I think it should be looked at by science, if this actually causes ppl to do this shit less irl. If they do it like this. But ugh

For those who are dumb af and don't realize what I was saying: I only talk about people who are aware about how fucked up this is and never dare to hurt a kid. You don't choose to be like this. But you choose to become an offender. Tho I get it, it's easier to leave downvotes than to use your brain for a moment.

u/SingleRefrigerator8 avatar SingleRefrigerator8 • 8h ago Shep can just ban the account. Yeah doing so would make that sick fuck user create another account but at least Shep has to do his part, not just shadow banning. This is the only right thing to do.

ReizerkinVirus • 48m ago It would also unfortunately remove all the evidence too :((( a shadowban preserves the evidence so that it can be reported. If it was outright banned we'd lose it all and nothing would be able to be done, I'm just hoping that they did report this to the FBI

u/BetLucky4597 avatar BetLucky4597 • 2h ago From what’s shown here, this looks like an immediate containment decision, not approval or indifference. When something serious is flagged, acting quickly to cut visibility while gathering info or preventing ban evasion is a common moderation step.

Taking one screenshot out of context and framing it as intent or negligence feels dishonest. Fast, imperfect triage under pressure isn’t the same as condoning anything, and pretending otherwise is unfair.

WearCertain7817 • 1h ago is shadowban not better than deleting the account? legally it’s better to keep the account and prevent it from posting in case authorities come and request that information and you actually have it. it’s better to shadowban because they you’ll have ip addressed and registration information. majority of sites have this policy.

u/Swimming_Pin4553 avatar Swimming_Pin4553 • 6h ago I believe shadowbanning has its merits. If we issue a hard ban or an IP ban, the user will likely find a way back. As for reporting to authorities, it might trigger a full investigation of the entire platform, which risks exposing other 'gray area' content and potentially getting the site shut down. That said, does anyone have ideas on how to make shadowbanning even more effective or comprehensive for cases like this?

(English is not my native language, so I’m using a translator.)

u/Ok-Cause-8345 avatar Ok-Cause-8345 • 8h ago 🗣 Body, mind, and soul I hope shep reported that weirdo to the authorities, assuming that mods do not have access to that guy's IP details and unable to report him. He really needs to make that clear.

The problem with banning is, the mods are already small in numbers and are overworked so dealing with a revolving door of weirdos would make things even more difficult for them. So shadowbanning seems to be effective enough considering the resources available. Of course if Jai had a larger and professional staff outright ban is the way to go.

GrimBunnyTales • 5h ago Lots of questions ⁉️ The leaked screenshots are showing evidence of Shep and his team doing their job. It's containment, preservation of identifying information and prevention of immediate re-offense by this bad actor.

The real problem is that the community does not have a clear understanding of our privacy what happens with our info / chats behind the scenes. If we understood the process then user's here might recognize that the team handled this situation well. If anything this shows how much privacy we are afforded. If I understand right they were preserving evidence internally for this particular case. Which means they likely pushed this situation outward to proper authorities because nobody wants to sit on data like this long term. At this point it really could be confidential and being handled off-platform. They might legally be barred from talking further about this.

PotatoGamer3 • 8h ago I mean I actually kind of understand. Banning the guy would make him make a new account, and post the same deplorable shit again, but shadowbanning, doesn't know he's banned, and nobody can see his shit. I mean it's either that, or filters. Deplorable regardless.

AcceptableGas667 • 8h ago Maybe, Just Maybe For real on the IP pan and fbi reports. I thought everyone was talking about little fictional scenarios but REAL IMAGES??? oh yeah just shadowban that instead of reporting it to authorities ...what the fuck.

We shouldnt be surprised, though. They let dozens of 'real person' bots stand, and its parasocial af at best. This isnt right but, everyone should've seen it coming.

RogueCross • 7h ago Then I think people don't realize how serious this is. Real CSAM is an extremely serious crime, one that the authorities don't really play around with. If they start an investigation and find out that the people managing this website didn't do the bare minimum (which is to fully ban anything and everything containing real CSAM and report it), this could open Shep and the website up to a lot of serious problems.

ReizerkinVirus • 45m ago But if they outright ban then all the evidence would be removed through the way the data services work. My only question is. Did they report this? A shadowban preserves evidence. Let's get that out of the way, a lot of people have explained this underneath this post. Now the next step is reporting. Was this account properly reported? That context changes the issue. If it was just a shadowban without any report made; than this is an issue. But if it was a shadowban and a report made and authorities informed; than legally? They cannot take down the evidence through a full ban.

u/KimTheVampireSlayer avatar KimTheVampireSlayer • 42m ago They can make ban work however they want to. A ban does not need to scrub everything, especially not if it is suspicious. Data can be retained without continuing to give this person access to the site and its services. I hope that helps? - genuine.

After all, they still has the option of creating another account, right? I think the real question we should be asking is how this guys is still out there with a real CP image (cause if they has one, I probably don't need to say that this freaks has been stalking it long enough to warrant a record).
